YEAR 1 & 2

Week ending 13.09.19

We've been having great fun learning about life in Victorian times. Our role play is set up as a Victorian home including a kitchen.

In English, we have been segmenting and blending phonemes in our reading and writing. We have enjoyed reading the text, Daisy saves the day. We used what we had read to create story boards showing the key events at the beginning, middle and end of the story.

In Maths, we have been looking at shapes and numbers.

Class Blog September 2019

Welcome back!

This term we will be questioning what we know about the Victorians and the way they lived. This forms part of our History learning, considering significant events beyond living memory. We will be using the text, 'Daisy saves the Day' during our English lessons and discussing the work of LS Lowry and Claude Monet before attempting to recreate some of their paintings.

We look forward to welcoming Notty Hornblower into school in a couple of weeks. She will be bringing lots of Victorian costumes for us to look at.

We have had a very busy week so far.

In English we have been pretending to be Daisy from 'Daisy saves the Day' and writing home to her mother to tell her all about working as a scullery maid.

During Learning Challenge we looked at Victorian Toys, there were many similarities to our own but also a lot of differences, the children couldn't believe some Victorian dolls had real human hair!

In Science this week the children have enjoyed thinking about how the human species differs to many other species accross the world.

We got messy with paint in Art, we have been looking at mixing primary colours to create secondary colours in readiness for creating our Art based on Claude Monet's impressionist paintings next week.

In Maths we have been learning about Place Value, Year 1 have been comparing groups of objects and Year 2 have been counting in 2s, 3s and 5s.
